DLI List & How to Verify

A Designated Learning Institution (DLI) is a school approved by a provincial or territorial government to host international students. You MUST receive a Letter of Acceptance from a DLI to be eligible for a study permit.

1

Visit IRCC Website

Go to the official Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) DLI list page

2

Select Province

Choose your target province/territory from the dropdown menu

3

Search Institution

Find your institution by name or DLI number (starts with O for Ontario, etc.)

4

Check PGWP Eligibility

Verify if the institution is eligible for Post-Graduation Work Permit

Important DLI Facts

  • Public colleges and universities are always DLI-eligible
  • Private institutions may or may not have PGWP eligibility - verify separately
  • Public-private partnership college graduates are NO LONGER eligible for PGWP
  • DLI status can be revoked - check before accepting admission
  • Quebec institutions have additional CAQ requirements

PGWP (Post-Graduation Work Permit) Pathway to PR

The PGWP is your golden ticket to Canadian PR. After graduation, you can work for any employer in Canada, gaining valuable Canadian experience that significantly boosts your PR application.

Step 1: Complete Your Studies

Graduate from a PGWP-eligible DLI. Program must be 8+ months for any PGWP, 2+ years for maximum 3-year PGWP.

Study Permit Guide

Step 2: Apply for PGWP

Apply within 180 days of graduation. Get 8 months to 3 years work permit based on program length. Master's get 3 years regardless.

PGWP Details

Step 3: Gain Work Experience

Work in a skilled occupation (NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3). 1 year of Canadian experience qualifies you for CEC.

Work Experience Guide

Step 4: Apply for PR

Apply through Express Entry (CEC), Provincial Nominee Programs, or category-based draws. Canadian education adds 30 CRS points.

  • CEC Advantage: Canadian Experience Class has lower CRS cutoffs than FSW
  • French Bonus: French studies in Canada add up to 50 additional CRS points
  • Employer Preference: Canadian education makes you more employable, leading to job offers (50-200 points)
