NOC & TEER Guide
The National Occupational Classification (NOC) is Canada's national system for describing occupations. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) uses the 2021 version of the NOC to identify and categorize jobs according to the training, education, experience and responsibilities (TEER) required.
In 2022, Canada switched from skill levels (0, A, B, C, D) to TEER categories. TEER stands for:
The new system has 6 categories (TEER 0 to 5). To be eligible for Express Entry programs (Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades), your work experience usually generally needs to fall under TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3.

| TEER 1 | Occupations that usually require a university degree | Software engineers, Financial advisors, Journalists |
| TEER 2 | Occupations that usually require a college diploma, apprenticeship training of 2 or more years, or supervisory occupations | Computer network technicians, Medical laboratory technologists |
| TEER 3 | Occupations that usually require a college diploma, apprenticeship training of less than 2 years, or more than 6 months of on-the-job training | Bakers, Dental assistants, Photographers |
