Canada Self-Employed Persons Program

A unique immigration pathway for talented individuals with world-class experience in cultural activities or athletics who can make a significant contribution to Canada's cultural or athletic landscape.

Eligible Professions

Cultural Activities

Professionals who have made a significant contribution to the world of arts and culture.

  • Musicians, composers, and singers
  • Actors, directors, and producers
  • Visual artists, painters, and sculptors
  • Writers, poets, and authors
  • Photographers and cinematographers
  • Dancers and choreographers
  • Graphic designers and illustrators

Athletics

World-class athletes and sports professionals who excel at the international level.

  • Professional athletes (any sport)
  • Coaches and trainers
  • Sports officials and referees
  • Sports managers
  • Fitness and conditioning experts
  • Sports therapists
  • Sports event organizers

Qualifying Experience

Minimum Duration

At least 2 years of relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics within the 5 years before applying.

World-Class Level

Must have participated at the world-class level in cultural or athletic events, or have been self-employed with relevant experience.

Self-Employment Intent

Must intend and be able to become self-employed in Canada in cultural activities or athletics.

Significant Contribution

Demonstrate ability to make a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada.

Experience

Points awarded based on years of relevant self-employment experience in cultural or athletic activities (max 35 points).

Age

Maximum points for applicants aged 21-49. Points decrease for those younger or older (max 10 points).

Education

Points based on educational credentials, with higher points for university degrees (max 25 points).

Language

Points for proficiency in English and/or French based on CLB levels (max 24 points).

Adaptability

Additional points for factors like spouse's education, previous work/study in Canada (max 6 points).

Complete self-assessment to check if you meet the required 35-point pass mark for eligibility.

Program Requirements

  • Relevant Experience

    At least 2 years of relevant self-employment experience in cultural activities or athletics at the world-class level.

  • Self-Employment Intention

    Intend and be able to be self-employed in Canada and make a significant contribution to cultural or athletic life.

  • Selection Criteria Score

    Meet the minimum pass mark of 35 points based on experience, education, age, language, and adaptability.

  • Settlement Funds

    Proof of sufficient funds to support yourself and family members after arrival in Canada.

  • Medical & Security

    Pass medical examination and security/background checks. Clear criminal and immigration history.
