How to Earn 6 Points

You need a total of 6 points to qualify. The main way to earn points is through skilled employment with an Accredited Employer in New Zealand, combined with either high pay or a Green List occupation.

Basic Eligibility

Meet these criteria to be eligible for the Skilled Migrant Category visa.

Age Requirement

Must be 55 years or younger at the time of application. Maximum points awarded to applicants aged 20-39.

Health & Character

Must meet health requirements (medical exam) and have good character (police clearance from all countries lived 5+ years).

English Proficiency

IELTS 6.5+ overall (no band below 6.0), or PTE 58+, TOEFL iBT 79+. Native English speakers exempt.

Skilled Employment

Must have skilled employment in New Zealand, or a job offer from an accredited employer. Occupation must be on ANZSCO skill level 1-3.

Minimum 6 Points

Must score at least 6 points on the new SMC points system from skilled employment, qualifications, work experience, or partner employment.
